Program Description

The MBA in Healthcare Administration and Leadership program is open exclusively to UT Southwestern Medical Center medical leaders and healthcare institutional partners.

The program is designed for professionals who want to strengthen their leadership and business skills in healthcare. The hybrid program functions as an organizational development initiative, building both individual leadership and institutional capacity.

Students gain insight into healthcare challenges and innovations, sharpen decision-making, and learn to manage complex business and clinical environments. The cohort model encourages teamwork, collaboration and peer learning among executives and emerging leaders. Coursework covers organizational behavior, healthcare economics, cost management, operations, analytics and strategic leadership. The program concludes with a capstone project based on real-world initiatives defined by the sponsoring healthcare institution.

Qualified applicants must be a current employee of UT Southwestern Medical Center or other healthcare institutional partners. In addition, applicants must be selected by their employer to be a member of the healthcare partnership cohort.

Applicants to the Healthcare Administration and Leadership master’s degree program should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an institution in the United States, or its equivalent (all majors are considered).
  • A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in both core and aggregate courses.
  • Test Scores: A GRE/GMAT test score is not required, and students have the option to submit a test score if desired. A GRE/GMAT test score will only be used for admission purposes if one is provided by the applicant.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation from an individual able to judge the candidate’s potential for success in the master’s degree program. The letter can be academic or professional.
  • Admissions Essay: Applicants must submit an essay outlining their academic interests and professional goals.
  • A resume.
  • International applicants must submit a TOEFL score of at least 80 on the internet-based test. Scores must be less than two years old. See the Graduate Catalog for additional information regarding English proficiency requirements for international applicants.
